Roxy Lavish and the Suicide Cult

Roxy Lavish and the Suicide Cult will play our Rural Music Club on June 16th, eclectic DownUnder mix of garage, psychedelia and rock that will have you all dancing like you were back in Woodstock, even if you’ve never been there! Here’s the interview preceding a very cool gig.

1. Your sound blows me away, it’s proper rock blues that would make a young and spunky Dylan proud. Would love to know your life motto and how it affects your music?
Thanks! I don't know if I have a life motto as such. Things that happen in life, experiences, relationships, things I see, hear, feel, the ups and downs, the fight, struggle, frustration, people and society in general. Some of the absurdity of this world affect my music in a big way lyrically. What inspires me is to try and express and bring colour to those feelings and mould it into a song that I'm proud of. Things in life happen everyday, some of it I just let pass over my head and other things I hang on to and need to write about it in form of song. I never know what kind of song I'm going to write next and that's exciting!

2. Never been Down Under but I love your famous no-fuss style, what’s it like to grow up there, what do you miss the most when you’re away?
We definitely have a no fuss style, and all of our new songs are getting to the point even quicker!
Growing up in Australia was great, couldn't complain. The beaches, countryside, weather, the city, I'm thankful. I know that we're very privileged to have been brought up here. Especially in Melbourne, the music capital of Australia, where if you're music mad there's a thriving live music scene seven days a week. There are many venues and community radio stations like PBS and RRR which play and support local artists in all styles and genres of music.
Honestly, I won't miss much around here while I'm on tour in Europe though. This is all I've ever wanted to do and I'd be on tour everyday of my life if I could be. I've never been outside of Australia so I won't be in any hurry to come back :)

3. 3 records that made you want to go up there and DYI?
I'll give you five all worth your time!
Highway 61 - Bob Dylan
Exile On Main Street - The Rolling Stones
Give It Back - The Brian Jonestown Massacre
Easter Everywhere - The 13th Floor Elevators
Loaded - The Velvet Underground

4. This is your first European tour right, tell people why they should come see you playing at Cascina Bellaria!
Yes! This is our first European tour! Coming over to Europe, touring and playing music there is a dream come true. I never thought it would be possible for us, but here we are booked to play at such amazing places like Cascina Bellaria on June 16. It still blows my mind!!!
The people should definitely come out to see us play, we're not coming all that way for nothing! We've been waiting a year and a half for this. We'll be putting on a high energy show full of psych, garage, blues rock & roll. We're bringing 20 songs on this tour so we can play a long set if the people want it! It's very danceable music and the people are guaranteed to have a great time. Join us and support your favourite cult!!!
