Arbouretum was started in late 2002 by Dave Heumann, who was looking to get a recording project going. Since then, all kinds of other stuff has happened including 4 full-length albums, numerous limited-edition CD releases, several tours in the US and Europe, and quite a few lineup changes.
They are deft interpreters of a monumental, volcanic sound, a heavy force which is earthen but simultaneously bound for the cosmos. This ritualistic psych rock emanates from Corey Allender’s churning, hypnotic bass, Matthew Pierce’s raga-drone synth sweeps & the ceremonially heavy drumming of J.V. Brian Carey, but is certainly centred upon vocalist & guitarist Dave Heumann’s archaically phrased riffs, molten solos & resonant intonations.
A quietly joyous mix of hazy vintage rock, reflective concepts & meditative repetition, startlingly close to perfect.
